The purpose of this study was to assess the nature and the significance of kiyo journals in the development of nursing scholarship in the context of Japanese culture. This article consists of 3 parts: (1) an analysis of Japanese culture in fostering nursing scholarship, (2) a brief review of the historical development of nursing education, and (3) a review of quantitative research on kiyo.
